Appointment triage system
Last Updated: Thursday, 08 May 2025Due to the current unprecedented demand for GP appointments, we will be operating a new system for patients to access appointments.
This system will ensure that those patients in most need of a same day appointment are prioritised and allocated an appointment with the most appropriate clinician. It also ensures that the clinician has first hand access to clinical information from the patient to enable them to prioritise patients healthcare and signpost them safely to appropriate clinicians or other partner services.
From Wednesday 11th June 2025 we will be operating a fully digital appointment system, this means that all requests to see a clinician or for administration enquiries should be requested via our website Consult Online from Home - The Grey Road Surgery all requests will be triaged by a GP and the patient will be offered the most appropriate appointment or service.
We understand that some patients may not be able to access some digital services, if this is the case our care navigators will submit an online request on behalf of the patient, you will be asked questions about your health care needs so that our care navigators can complete the form correctly, refusal to give information could result in issues on how your healthcare problems are prioritised, it is therefore extremely important that as much information is provided.
If you are using the NHS app you can access online services via your app also, if you haven't registered for the app yet you can do so here NHS App and your NHS account - NHS you do not need a smart phone you can also access the app via a laptop, tablet or desktop PC
Same day appointments
Our duty doctor will be evaluating the information given to our care navigators who will take some basic details from you and ensure that you are available to attend for a same day appointment at the time allocated.
In order to run this service efficiently, where appropriate, we will be using text messages to contact patients with the details of their appointment. For those without mobile phones, you will be contacted back by a member of staff with the details.
Following day or future routine appointments
To ensure safe practice at all times, as safety is our greatest priority, the GP may suggest that certain conditions may be more suitably dealt with the following day or a later time. You will be informed of an appropriate appointment as required.
Having listened to all of the feedback from patients over recent months, both positive and negative, we hope this new system will ensure that we are making the most efficient and effective use of our available resources.
Partner Services
If appropriate we may signpost patients to alternate services for treatment, for example treatment at a local pharmacy for minor illness.
